Bad romance

I swear, I'm getting back into the swing of things soon, but in the meantime: some people I think misunderstand what "romance" means. For me, and this is just an opinion, I don't include Josef Fritzl in the "romantic" category. But some might disagree!

    It's my understanding that the rapey-pirate/nobleman trope is quite well represented in novels of the bosom heaving variety.

    I guess if you can't land a man with barely controlled impulses to drain every last drop of blood from your body then a rapist pirate is the next best thing. I mean, really. What sort of girl would settle for a nice accountant who mows the lawn and takes out the garbage when she could have all that?

    But when I just looked up "romance" in the dictionary it had a picture of Mel Gibson next to it. Is that wrong?
